Holmesdale: Joel Greaves
Following on from a magnificent performance against an experienced Beckenham Town, the Dalers visited a much hyped and inexperienced Boro side. After a great performance themselves, Greenwich Manager Steve Firkins sent a warning to the Dalers that one goal would turn too many.
With the eleventh hour drop out of Jason Thompson, Holmesdale moved Lee Morgan back to central midfield and brought in striker Joel Greaves. With unknown quantity Greaves and inconsistent Joel Hughes, Holmesdale could not have predicted what would happen next. The first goal came early in the first half. Holmesdale's Dadson took a quick throw to Hughes who passed one defender and crossed from the byline into the box for Greaves to head home for his first goal. Holmesdale then dominated the next 15 minutes with efforts from Greaves and a mishit shot from Dadson with his less than favorable left foot. Greenwich slowly began to come back into the game but their slick passing was not paying dividends, a poor back header from Tolfrey nearly put Greenwich back into the game only for the Greenwich forward to miss an open goal. Lee Morgan got injured just before half time and was unable to continue in the second half. The Dalers went in 1-0 up at half time and deservedly so.
The second half brought more chances and more goals for the Dalers. Greenwich unable to get to grips with the pitch and the experience of the Dalers lost a second goal. A ball into Hughes saw a flick between two defenders for Greaves to run onto and finish with ease. This sadly was Hughes only real input of the second half. With such a magnificent display in his first game, Joel Hughes disappointed. With such a display may cause alarm to supporters and coaches. The third goal for Greaves came from a slightly dubious penalty award. Hughes on a rare run into the box was felled as the defender got close. Greaves took a very confident penalty to complete a well deserved hat-trick and also claim man of the match.
Late on and with time nearly up a ill timed tackle by Cristos Nicoli in the Dalers box earned Greenwich a consolation goal. Ogoo step up and narrowly beat Danny Harewood. The Dalers will look to build on their two wins when they play Slade Green at the weekend.
