Holmesdale 6 : 2 Margate Monday 31st August 2009

Holmesdale: Mark Axell, Peter Afolayan, Jack Highwood x 2, Anthony Pace x 2

Man of the match - Jack Highwood

Holmesdale entertained Margate in their first home game of the 2009/2010 season having previously lost the first league fixture 5-4 at Thamesmead Town.

Holmesdale had a solid start to the match scoring from a corner with a deflected shot from Mark Axell. However, Margate soon took the lead as Holmesdale failed to put a cross in and were caught on the break despite controlling the game with good possession and creating chances. Holmesdale kept on the pressure playing well and dominating most of the game, although Lee Gibbs had to make two very fine saves. The reward soon came as they bounced back with 2 more goals from Anthony Pace and Jack Highwood before half time to go 3-2 up at the break.

After the break Holmesdale never looked in trouble and substitute Peter Afolayan finished the game by putting Holmesdale 4-2 up. After the goal Holmesdale continuted to dominate the play creating many chances. Margate managed to trouble Keeper Lee Gibbs with a shot that ended up hitting the cross bar. More and more chances came Holmesdale's way and the match could well have seen double figures. Anthony pace had a great run through and brought the score to 5-2. Jack Highwood made it 6-2 from a rebound.

Team Manager, Johan Oosterling - "Overall a great performance, we looked fitter than them, better organised, more committed and we took our chances well although we could or should have scored even more. Defensively we looked comfortable with not giving away much although it is always tough playing against teams who play well on the break. we have scored 13 goals in the last 3 games, if we can develop our organisation defensively as a team over the next week I think we will be a bit more comfortable in the dugout."
