On a glorious sunny day at ’The Small Glen’ the
Dalers took to the field full of confidence with the squad strengthened by the inclusion of Hatt, Strotten & Coles.
Both teams started of a bit cautious trying not to over commit
by trying to keep the ball, after 20 mins Dadson with some fine wing play put a cross into the box for Thomas who’s
turn and shot went just wide of the post.
On 30 mins a mix up in the Dalers defence let in the Green but
the shot trickled wide, the Dalers mounted some pressure in the form of ten corners in the half but failed to test the keeper.
At half time the Dalers made a change. Hope for the injured
White, the Dalers started brightly and after 47 mins Dadson rounded the keeper but saw his cross missed by the Beckett &
Thomas as they charged in.
The Dalers were now starting to pass the ball more quickly into
feet and with Beckett & Thomas causing problems for the Green defence a goal was sure to come.
Several opportunities were created but with some last ditch
defending and poor shooting the keeper was left untested.
From a corner the ball found its way back to Dadson whom floated
the ball into the box for Broome to flick the ball into the net, 1-0 the Dalers.
Another change saw Hatt on for O’Rourke who was straight
into the action down the left flank with a fine ball from Hope. The Dalers stayed mainly in the Green half for the final 15
mins, Strotten came on for Thomas, and his first touch a shot on target, finally testing the keeper.
The final whistle blew and the Dalers picked up their first
three points of the season.
A good performance all round and with Hughes, Creasey, Spain,
Green, Jones, West, Crofts and Rambarron challenging for places the squad can only get stronger.
