Holmesdale:
On our first trip of two in
a week to Hythe turned out to be fruitless as the Dalers came away with a 4-0 defeat.
Due to injuries and unavailability’s
the Dalers had to make five changes to the side that started the previous week against Beckenham, this unfortunately gave
Hythe the edge early on and they took advantage on 6 mins when Smisson hit the back of the net from a corner.
On 9 mins a lucky deflection
from a Dale clearance fell at the feet of Smisson again to which he punished the visitors with a low finish, 2-0 down after
9 mins!!
After this shaky start the Dalers
were starting to get into the game by moving the ball a bit quicker and some slick passing put McDiarmid into a shooting position
which he took with some venom and the Town keeper could only parry away for a corner. This gave the Dalers a bit of confidence
and the first half was played out with both sides creating goal scoring chances but Hythe ended the half 2-0 up.
The second half got underway
and from a Hythe corner the referee spotted an infringement in the Dalers box and awarded a penalty, what for we are not sure
as no Hythe players or supporters appealed for a pen, Brazier stepped up and slotted it home, 3-0.
Strangely this inspired the
Dalers never say die attitude and they battled away against Hythe and the official in the middle and tried to take the game
to opponents, Creasey came on for the injured Hamilton and Broome moved back into midfield, baker came on for Hatt with Major
replacing Steers at the back.
The Dalers chances of getting
anything out of the game ended on 70 mins when Broome received a second yellow for what appeared to be a great challenge and
salt was rubbed into the wounds when on 73 Brazier scored with good header at the far post, 4-0.
On 80 mins it got worse for
the Dalers as Hill came off injured and they had to play out the last ten mins with 9 players but still they didn’t
give up and Creasy had a goal disallowed for offside.
4-0 sounded like a right thrashing
but the score line didn’t reflect the game, lets see what happens on Tuesday night when the Dalers meet Hythe again
in the League Cup.
