Beckenham Town vs Holmesdale - Match Highlights
Saturday 2nd January 2009Holmesdale's first fixture of the New Year took place in freezing conditions against Beckenham Town who in their last meeting saw Holmesdale take the upper hand after a penalty shoot out in The Kent Senior Trophy.
Beckenham Town were first off the mark and started well, having the better of the first half.
After forcing the first action out of Holmesdale's man of the match Jamie Williams The Dalers created a chance for Jack Highwood. Ben Chick burst down the wing and crossed into the box. Highwood was unmarked at the far post but the finger tips of Becks debutant keeper Jani Seitsonen was just enough as Highwood was put off and headed over.
Becks took the lead through Durrand Jemmott after 20 minutes and the visitors responded with an equaliser from Lee Speirs. He was played through and beat the offside trap to have a one on one with the keeper. Seitsonen again got something on the ball but Lee reacted quickest to poke the ball past him and a recovering defender.
The home side dominated the rest of the half with the exception of a superb effort from Highwood who's 25 yard effort crashed against the crossbar.
The Dalers gave away a soft penalty which was converted by Anthony Weir just after the half hour and Beckenham missed chances to extend their lead when Williams saved from Skipper Curran twice and also from Weir.
After keeping the visitors in the match he was finally beaten by Gorman just before half time as Holmesdale conceded a goal from a set piece.
In the second half Beckenham secured the win with another goal from Weir only to see the visitors rally late on and cut the 3 goal lead, first with an excellent strike from the left boot of Steve Strotten on 80 minutes and then a top class strike from Spiers. He curled a free kick expertly into the top corner with just 5 minutes left to play.
Beckenham hung on to win a trilling 4-3 match in freezing conditions.
Holmesdale travel to Herne Bay for the 3rd time this season for the Kent Senior Trophy quarter final this coming Saturday.
