Mark Harris Appointed New Chairman
Tuesday 8th June 2010Following the resignation of Ray Tolfrey, Holmesdale have moved quickly to find a new chairman and today have the pleasure of announcing Mark Harris as our new Chairman. Mark was voted in as chairman at our AGM meeting on Friday 4th June and becomes chairman with immediate effect.
Mark has already been looking at things both on and off the field and as a club we are working towards some specific goals. We would all like to welcome Mark to the club and look forward to good times ahead under his leadership.
Below is a short interview with Mark:
Mark, so you have accepted the role as chairman tell us why?
I originally joined Holmesdale in 1985 and spent many years as a manager and committee member. I have continued to monitor the clubs progress via a number of close friends who have remained involved and it seemed a natural point in the cycle to return to the fold and help the club in its next stage of development.
What have been your first impressions of the club and people involved?
The progress made in the last few years has been impressive, in particular the playing facilities and clubhouse, something we were sadly lacking in the eighties and nineties. There are a number of new faces and a strong team ethic.
What do you enjoy about football?
As a long suffering Crystal Palace supporter enjoyment and football are difficult to put together! My enjoyment is driven out of seeing progress made both on and off the pitch and people enjoying themselves and developing a team spirit.
What things are you looking to change/develop on at the club?
I have been impressed with what I have seen to date. I aim to bring everyone together and ensure we achieve the objectives we set for the club, both on and off the field whilst also bringing financial stability via increased commercial activity.
Tell us what you know about some of the people involved at the club?
What goes on tour stays on tour! I have known a number of existing members for longer than I care to remember.
How would you define success at Holmesdale?
Winning trophies, a busy clubhouse and everyone smiling.
Ray Tolfrey Steps Down As Chairman
Monday 7th June 2010Holmesdale FC would like to announce that Ray Tolfrey has stepped down as Chairman of the club as of Friday 4th June 2010.
Ray has reluctantly made this decision after recently moving away from the area to deepest Kent. Realistically he is now unable to commit the time to the club that he would like and in light of this has made the decision to step down. He will still be attending games as and when he can and will still be around the club but on a less formal basis, if that’s possible!
Holmesdale FC would like to put on record it’s gratitude for all the time, effort and money that Ray has put into the club over the many years that he has been associated with it. This goes back to when he was Manager of the successful Holmesdale Youth Team’s, many of which are still involved with Holmesdale to date and again Ray was integral to this.
Ray has overseen a remarkable rise in the Club’s fortunes from our move from Oaks Road, Shirley, which was basically a park pitch, to our new home at Oakley Road, Bromley. He has headed the clubs progression on the field from Division 1 West of the Kent County League to the Kent Premier League. Along the way the Club won the Surrey Intermediate Cup, were runner up in the Inter Regional Cup and won back to back Kent County League titles which culminated in the promotion to the Kent League.
It is safe to say that without Ray’s input and commitment to the cause, Holmesdale FC would probably not exist today and certainly not in its present form. Ray has yellow and green blood and has been the driving force behind Holmesdale. He has worked tirelessly and relentlessly to keep the club moving forward and always given us 100%.
We are pleased that Ray has agreed to be our Honorary President and we wish him and Denise the very best for their future as country folk. Thanks Ray for everything.
Holmesdale will shortly announce the appointment of their new chairman.
