Seven Goals As Athletic Come Out On Top

Saturday 6th March 2010

Holmesdale's Third Team went into their game against top of the table South East Athletic knowing they had to improve from the week before after getting beaten by bottom of the league Rotherhithe.

Confidence was high as the returning Dave Steers was brought straight back into the starting line up after last weeks dereliction of duty, it's funny how being the Manager can aid selection! He started up front but due to his inept display he was replaced at half time by a guy that was passing whilst walking his dog, he proved to be far more effective than Steersy who on this form must be seriously considering hanging up the boots for good.

On a serious note it was a hard fought contest where Athletic came out on top by the odd goal in 7. All 4 of their goals were conceded from corner kicks and Holmesdale will be wondering how they didn't come out of the game with at least a draw. Terry Dance showed once again what a quality player he is by scoring a brace, with Jack Highwood being the other Holmesdale scorer.

The lads will be looking to get back on the winning trail again in their next fixture and currently sit a creditable 3rd in the league.

Penalty Divides The Points

Tuesday 2nd March 2010

Holmesdale travelled to Norton off the back of two wins with the hope of building on this further.

Norton's last minute stand in keeper Daniel Baverstock was hardly called into action until the 28th minute when Bell struck a stunning left footed strike from 30 yards which went in off the bar.

The second half saw Holmesdale start the first 10 minutes brightly with a chance to go 2-0 up from 6 yards that went flying over the bar.

Norton were rewarded for a foul on Michael Green with Ryan Rook converting the penalty straight down the middle after 74 minutes.

With the final score at 1-1 Holmesdale are now closing on the midtable group with 8 points from their last 4 games.

The squad are rested this weekend with the next fixture being the long trip to Deal Town on Saturday 13th March.
